Common Questions about Liposuction
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a way to improve body contour by removing pockets of unwanted fat. Liposuction should not be used as a substitute for exercise and proper nutrition. It’s primary purpose is to improve the appearance of the body by removing excess fat in the localized areas.
What technique does Dr. Maggi use for Liposuction?
Dr. Maggi uses the tumescent technique. In the tumescent technique, saline solution is infused into the area to be excised so that Dr. Maggi can remove the fat more efficiently. This allows the patient a faster, more comfortable recovery with less bruising.
Should I lose weight before Liposuction?
Before you have liposuction surgery, you should be at a weight that you can maintain over time without unhealthy dieting. Some of us will never be at what we might consider our “ideal” weight. However, liposuction can help us get closer to our goal by reducing the real problem areas which will allow our clothes to fit better, our body contours to look smoother, and helps us to have a better overall self-image.
Won’t the fat come back if I gain weight?
The fat cells that are removed will never return. If you do gain weight, it will be distributed over your entire body as predetermined by your genetic makeup. Because there are much fewer fat cells remaining in the areas of removal, there will be less weight gained in that area. Many patients are so excited with their results, they are inspired to lose even more weight to enhance their new shape and smoother appearance.
What is recovery like after Liposuction?
Recovery from liposuction surgery varies with each individual and depends on the location and volume of body area that is treated. We send the patient home in a compression garment, which decreases pain and swelling. The patient is generally sore for about two weeks, although most patients return to work within a few days
